Peak 10 Challengers, have you reached that mid-way point and realized, that you may be starting to lose your focus? You started off motivated and excited to take on the 8-week challenge and then life got it the way with all its usual stresses and distractions.
You work hard all week, so then “feel” like you just want a weekend reward, a reason to splurge a little. You talk yourself into all the reasons why you should have another glass of wine, or just one more piece of bread, or a small treat.
Your co-workers made homemade chocolate chip cookies and guilt you into eating just one like everyone else. Hey they even throw out, “You look fabulous, you can eat it, go ahead… I made them just for you”. You say to yourself, “I had a long day”, “I upped my weights in class today”,” I have not missed one workout”, I need a little break today just this once…and this is where the “frenzy” starts.
Chocolate calls your name or you can’t resist that freshly baked sour dough bread and your mind starts you down that road. You know there is that one moment where THE RIGHT decision needs to be made. Will you give in, will you hang on, and will you finish what you started?
I was thinking about small (but practical) ways to help you make the right choice. How can we distract ourselves from temptation and those voices in our head. I came up with a few ideas for you. Maybe some of these will help you stay the course:
1 If you are home, put on a snug pair of jeans or skirt you want to easily fit into.
2 Reorganize your closet and get rid of all the “big” clothes you are no longer wearing. Put all the clothes you want to feel better in right at arms reach.
3 Brush and floss your teeth.
4 Chew a piece of gum.
5 If going out to diner, wear something that makes you feel confident and fabulous but not so comfortable that you can eat and drink with abandon.
6 Remind yourself nothing tastes as good as lean, fit and healthy feels.
7 Drink a full glass of water and wait 20 minutes, if you are still wanting to give in, repeat
8 Make yourself a cup of decaf coffee or tea.
9 Paint your nails, ok guys this one may not work for you.
10 Go online and get yourself some new motivating workout music.
11 Go for a walk with your kids or loved one. Get some extra bonding time in that doesn’t involve food.
12 Re-write your goals and make a list of all the ways you self sabotage yourself. Then write a strategy for each to stay on course. Post it on the fridge
13 Foam roll your tired muscles.
14 Soak in the tube.
15 Just go to bed – LOL
Please feel free to share your favorite strategies as we all could use a little help…
